The weave physically removes the keratin lid instead of softening it and leaving it there. That's why the result holds between uses.

Soak first
Five minutes under warm water before you start. Dry skin doesn't release — softened skin does. This is the step people skip and then blame the mitt.
Long strokes, light hand
Wet the mitt, no soap needed. Move in long upward passes. Let the weave do it. Pressing harder doesn't exfoliate more — it just makes you red.
Rinse, hang, moisturise
Rinse the mitt out and hang it by the loop to dry. Then moisturise while your skin is still damp. Repeat twice a week — not daily.

Will this shred my skin? I have sensitive, eczema-prone skin.
No — and the design is the reason. The cushioning inner layer absorbs the pressure your hand applies, so the outer grain works on the dead layer instead of digging into living skin. That's the difference between friction and scratching.
If your skin is reactive, start once a week, keep the pressure light, and moisturise straight after. Redness during use means you're pressing too hard, not that the mitt is too strong.
Isn't this just a washcloth?
A washcloth has one flat layer with no grain — it slides over keratin buildup and cleans the surface. Velvette has a micro-grain outer weave engineered to catch and lift that buildup, backed by a cushioning layer so the abrasion stays controlled.
You'll know within one use. A washcloth leaves your skin clean. This leaves it different to the touch.
How do I stop it getting grim or mouldy?
Rinse it out properly after every use, wring it, and hang it by the loop somewhere with air — not flat in the corner of the tub. That single habit handles ninety percent of it.
Machine wash with your towels once a fortnight, warm, no fabric softener (softener coats the weave and kills the grain). Air dry. Replace roughly every six months.
Biodegradable usually means it falls apart. Does it?
Those are two separate things and we build them separately. Structurally it's made to survive repeated machine washing and hold its ribbed cuff for months of regular use.
The biodegradability matters at the end of that life, not during it — when you retire it, it breaks down instead of outliving you in landfill.
How fast will I actually see a difference?
Smoothness is immediate — you'll feel it the first time, because you've physically removed a layer that was there a minute ago.
The visible dots are a different clock. Those need the follicles to clear and the trapped hairs to break through: typically two to four weeks of twice-weekly use. Anyone promising overnight is selling you something else.
Can I use it on my face?
Don't. This is calibrated for body skin — legs, arms, back, chest, shoulders. Facial skin is thinner and will react badly to this level of friction.
Does it really take off fake tan?
Yes, because fake tan lives in the dead skin layer — remove the layer, remove the colour. Long passes over soaked skin lift it evenly rather than in patches.
Use it the day before you tan too. Even application starts with an even surface.
